The money schools are given for Pupil Premium is based on the number of children who are currently known to be eligible for free school meals, whose parents are serving in the Armed forces and children who have been in care with the local authority for over six months. This additional funding is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals within the past six years, those children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months, and children of service personnel. Pupil Premium is a government initiative introduced to narrow the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their more economically advantaged peers.
